Juvenile Charged as an Adult in Multiple Home Invasions and Arson Cases
August 17, 2005
A 16 year old resident of Auburn Hills has been arrested in connection with the home invasion and arson that occurred on August 2, 2005 in the 3600 block of S. Shimmons Circle. The home suffered significant structural damage and heavy smoke and water damage.
The juvenile has also been charged with three additional counts of home invasion and a second count of arson of a dwelling. The additional home invasion charges stem from three separate incidents that occurred on June 8, 2005, June 16, 2005, and June 27, 2005. The home invasions occurred at different residences in Auburn Hills. The second arson charge is the result of a fire that was set in the residence during the incident on June 8, 2005. The fire went out without being noticed and there was minimal damage to property in the residence. No residents were home when the home invasions or arsons occurred.
The suspect is charged with four counts of home invasion and two counts of arson. Home Invasion – Second Degree is a 15 year felony and/or $3,000 fine. Arson of a Dwelling is a 20 year felony. The juvenile is being charged as an adult due to the types of crimes and multiple offenses. The juvenile does not have a prior criminal history or any prior arrests. He is currently lodged at Children's Village on a $40,000 bond, with 10% allowed.
With no prior criminal history or police contacts, the suspect was able to avoid early identification. Auburn Hills investigators worked with minimal information and followed up on evidence that linked the suspect to each scene. The closures of these cases are the result of excellent investigative work. We are pleased to have this suspect in custody before anyone was injured.
