National Night Out 2006

Fatal Crash

Friday, October 14, 2005

Auburn Hills police investigators are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Thursday evening at approximately 7:46pm on southbound I-75 north of University. The preliminary investigation shows that a 2005 Chevy Malibu was traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-75 when it collided head on with a 1997 GMC pickup that was traveling southbound. The pickup was then struck by a 2001 Volkswagon that was also traveling southbound.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu, 48 year old Mary Adams of Pontiac, died at the scene.

The GMC pickup was driven by a 59 year old resident of Wolverine Michigan. The passenger in the pickup was the driver's 55 year old wife. Both the driver and passenger suffered serious injuries and they were both transported to a local hospital. The driver of the 2001 Volkswagon, 24 year old male from Clawson, suffered minor injures and he sought his own medical treatment.

Southbound I-75 was closed down to one lane until after midnight while accident investigators reconstructed the crash. Traffic from the Palace of Auburn Hills was not allowed to enter I-75 after the Piston's game. All Palace traffic was diverted to Lapeer Rd. and directed to I-75 via M-59.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, but it will be several weeks before this can be confirmed. Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the 2005 Chevy Malibu traveling in the wrong direction on the freeway is asked to contact the Auburn Hills police at 248-370-9444.
