Auburn Hills officers responded to a report of a subject firing a gun from the back of his home in the 600 block of Sheffield at 12:22pm today's date. Officers arrived on the scene and closed off the area. Residents in the immediate area were asked to stay inside their homes.

Once a perimeter around the home in question was established, officers contacted the resident via the telephone. It was then learned that the resident's twelve year old grandson was lighting firecrackers and throwing them out of the door of the walkout basement. This was later confirmed when officers were allowed to enter the home.

The grandmother of the child was given a citation for possession illegal fireworks. The 12 year old will be referred to Probate court.
