TASER Used on Resisting Suspect

On May 18, 2006 at approximately 5:15 p.m., Auburn Hills Police Officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Hempstead for a reported family trouble complaint. Officers spoke with the victim, a 21 year old female resident of Auburn Hills. The victim told officers that her brother had made verbal threats that he was going to kill her and in the past has assaulted her.
Officers were speaking with the victim when the suspect, an 18 year old Auburn Hills resident was seen walking toward the house with a stick in his hand. The suspect was ordered to drop the stick but refused to do so. Officers grabbed the stick out of the suspect's hands and were attempting to talk with the suspect. The suspect became very agitated and was told that he would be Tasered if he did not calm down. The suspect began swinging his arms at the officers striking each of the officers. One of the officers deployed his TASER and struck the suspect in the chest. An automatic 5 second shock was delivered to the resisting suspect. The suspect immediately stopped and fell to the ground. After the shock was administered the suspect complied with all orders from the officer and he was taken into custody. The suspect did not suffer any injuries as a result of the TASER. The officers did not suffer any injuries as a result of the assault.
The suspect was lodged at Oakland County Jail and a case prepared for the Oakland County Prosecutors Office for review.
