National Night Out 2006

Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

Auburn Hills officers apprehended a 40 year old Pontiac resident after a bank robbery at Best Bank, 9741 Dixie Hwy in Springfield Twp.  Responding to a broadcast for a vehicle wanted in connection with the bank robbery, Auburn Hills officers monitored traffic on south bound I-75 near Baldwin.

An Auburn Hills officer saw a red Ford Explorer, matching the description of the suspect vehicle traveling south on I-75.  The officer noticed that the vehicle was being driven by a female and the passenger was crouched down in the passenger seat as if trying to hide.  The officer followed the suspect vehicle until a back up unit could arrive to assist.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on southbound I-75 near Featherstone.  The driver accelerated and fled westbound on M-59 into Pontiac.  Auburn Hills officers pursued the suspects to the area of E. Beverly and Fuller where the male suspect jumped out of the suspect vehicle which continued east on Beverly.  The pursuing officer chased the male suspect on foot and was able to arrest him in the 600 block of Tennyson.

Witnesses in the area pointed out a bag and clothing items that the suspect dropped while he was running.  The bag contained cash that was covered with red dye from the dye pack placed with the money by the bank teller.  The suspect also had red dye on his clothing when he was arrested.

The suspect, recovered money, and other evidence were turned over to the Oakland County Sheriffs Office.  The female driving the suspect vehicle was not apprehended.
