PRESS RELEASE
Rolled Over Semi Shuts Down Highway
On June 22, 2007 at 8:38 A.M., the Auburn Hills Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to E/B M-59 near I-75 for a rolled over semi. Preliminary investigations show that the semi was traveling on S/B I-75 attempting to exit onto E/B M-59 when the vehicle rolled over. The semi was carrying pallets of brake fluid that broke open and spilled onto the highway. An environmental clean up agency has been contacted to clean up the brake fluid.
E/B M-59 from Opdyke Road to I-75 and the ramp from S/B I-75 to E/B M-59 will remain shut down for several hours to allow for the clean-up.
A second motor vehicle crash occurred when a vehicle traveling on E/B M-59 swerved to avoid striking the rolled over semi. The vehicle struck a pallet containing the brake fluid causing that vehicle to catch fire. The fire was extinguished by the Auburn Hills Fire Department. There was no one in the vehicle at the time of the fire.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident. Two drivers were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. The accident remains under investigation. Anyone that may have witnessed the accidents is asked to call the Auburn Hills Police at (248) 364-6884.
