Attempt Murder Suspect Charged
Dawanda Leonard, 37 years old, of Auburn Hills has been charged with Assault with Intent to Commit Murder with an alternative count of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder in the stabbing of a 26 year old Auburn Hills resident. Leonard was arraigned today on the charge at the 52/3 District Court in Rochester Hills. Magistrate Marie Soma set a bond of $15,000. Assault with Intent to Commit Murder is punishable by imprisonment for life or any number of years. Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder is punishable by imprisonment for not more than 10 years, or by fine of not more than $5,000.
On 8/5/2007 at approximately 1:00 A.M., Auburn Hills Police received a call from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital reporting that a victim of a stabbing had been brought to the hospital by family members. Officers spoke with the victim, a 26 year old Auburn Hills resident, and learned that she was attending a family gathering in the 800 block of Provincetown. An altercation took place between Leonard and the victim. During the altercation the victim was stabbed in the upper left chest with a knife.
The victim was treated for her injuries and release from the hospital on August 6.
