Suspicious Package at Chrysler
On 2/26/2007 at approximately 11:24 am, the Auburn Hills Police Department received a call from Daimler Chrysler Security about a suspicious package that was located in an office area of the education building. Daimler Chrysler Security informed the police department that the package had been removed from the building and placed outside. Responding Officers with the assistance of Daimler Chrysler Security isolated the immediate area and contacted the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad.
The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad in conjunction with the FBI inspected the package and found the package not to be an explosive. The Michigan State Police took possession of the package.
A Chrysler employee has come forward to claim responsibility for leaving the package in the office. The employee has indicated that the package was left as a “practical joke.”
The Chrysler employee has been arrested. The Auburn Hills Police Department will be presenting the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for charges of Device Representing or Presented as an Explosive, which is a felony under Michigan law punishable by imprisonment of not more than 5 years or a fine of not more than $3,000 or both.
The case remains under investigation.
